Security firm Close Protection UK is today's Cunt of the Day.
Didn't everyone just have a jakey old time celebrating the queen's jubilee these past few days? Well, according to revelations in today's Guardian, several stewards working at the event for Close Protection UK were having anything but a lovely time.
A number of jobseekers and apprentices were bussed to London by Close Protection UK to steward at the celebrations. The Guardian reports they were told to "camp under London Bridge overnight, to change into security gear in public, had no access to toilets for 24 hours, and were taken to a swampy campsite outside London after working a 14-hour shift in the pouring rain" - all, apparently for no pay. You can be most certain the company was well rewarded for securing the event, but that doesn't mean they had to share that with those who worked there, does it now?
Former deputy prime minister John Prescott has hastily written to the prime minister complaining about the company for "failing to show a duty of care to its staff and threatening to withdraw an opportunity to work at the Olympics as a means to coerce them to work unpaid". Meanwhile Close Protection UK "has issued "sincere apologies" for what it called the "London Bridge incident", but insisted that it had not been exploiting individuals but providing work experience" which sounds like a bunch of cold wank.
Wasn't it just a few weeks ago that Emma Harrison of Action for Employment was making news for pocketing large amounts of tax payer money for "helping" the long term unemployed? It appears that there is a whole line up of cunts prepared to misuse other people in order to cuntishly line their own pockets. Close Protection UK can apologize all it wants and insist it hasn't exploited anyone but at least we now all know what the company has done and can take some small comfort from the fact Close Protection UK is today's Cunt of the Day.
Sponsored by people who were most disappointed to learn that Hamad al-Naqi has been jailed for 10 years in Kuwait for exercising free speech. Apparently he endangered "state security by insulting the Prophet Muhammad and the rulers of Saudi Arabia and Bahrain in messages on Twitter" which is fucking horseshit!
