Keir Starmer is this week's Cunt of the Week.

As head of the UK's CPS, Starmer is responsible for the decision not to move ahead with a prosecution over the death of Ian Tomlinson. This in spite of the fact the Independent Police Complaints Commission believed there was a case for a charge of manslaughter.

What is truly tragic about this story is that very little happened after the announcement. Alright, there were a few headlines, but did anyone get out in the street and protest? Or have the British people simply resigned themselves to the fact that the police are above the law?

In the US recently, the verdict in the trial of former Cunt of the Day, Johannes Mehserle, had people protesting in the streets. Mehserle, in case you've forgotten, is a cop who mistook his gun for his taser and killed Oscar Grant in 2009. Tragically, the Brits seem to have become used to seeing no action taken against police officers who kill innocent members of the public.

• Blair Peach, who died at the hands of the police at an anti-racism demonstration in 1979
• Stephen Waldorf, mistakenly shot by police in 1993
  
• Harry Stanley, shot dead by police in 1999
• Jean Charles de Menezes, shot to death by police in 2005
• Ian Tomlinson, died after being shoved to the ground by police officer Simon Harwood in 2009

Of the thousands of comments posted on the internet in the wake of Starmer's announcement this week, someone quoted George Orwell's 1984: If you want a picture of the future, imagine a boot stamping on a human face— forever.

The British police have had a great week, and they can look forward to a future of metaphorical boots stamping on human faces, and they can do so with very little fear of any consequences.
